Emma Telford

I have over thirty years of experience in the care of historic textiles, underpinned by a detailed knowledge of materials and textile structures. Since establishing the studio in 1994, I have undertaken commissions from all manner of clients throughout the UK including historic houses, charitable trusts, museums, galleries, collectors, and private individuals.

Projects

Please browse through the gallery and read about some of the recent projects that have been treated at the studio. There’s a fantastic range of wonderful textiles that has kept me busy, from tapestries at historic houses, to small embroideries and a unique gilded Indian hanging.

Services

I am delighted to be able to offer a range of services to suit individual needs. If you have a textile – whether a family sampler, or a collection of tapestries – that requires preservation, investigation, or presentation, I am here to discuss it with you.

A survey, or an examination of the textile at the studio, is often the starting point for initiating a conservation project. Each textile is assessed, proposals drawn up and then treated according to its needs, environment, and the wishes of the client.

Specialising in remedial conservation both at the studio and on-site, I also offer consultancy; research; education, outreach, and training.
